RICHMOND, VA — Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashmi released the following statement after casting her ballot today for Virginia’s redistricting amendment: 

“Virginians have a chance to fight back against Trump’s unchecked power and his attempts to unfairly manipulate the midterm elections in his favor.” 

“This referendum is an opportunity for Virginians to defend the integrity of our elections with a temporary measure that responds to these unprecedented attacks on democracy throughout the country while preserving our normal redistricting process for the future.

I voted yes to restore fairness and give everyone a chance to elect a Congress that authentically represents voters.”

Early voting for the redistricting referendum continues this week and will continue through April 18. Election Day is April 21.
